Portraits

A portrait tattoo is the most honest test for a realism artist. On a lion nobody notices if the proportions are two millimetres off — on a face you know, everyone notices instantly. That's exactly why portrait is the style where skill shows.

At our tattoo studio in Hamburg this is A-Dem's core ground: he specialises in black & grey photorealism and portraits, is a sponsored artist and has won at several international conventions — including New York in 2023.

We tattoo in Hamburg-Borgfelde, a few minutes from the main station.

What you should know about portrait tattoos

The photo is half the work. Sharp, well lit, high resolution — you can't rebuild a face from a grainy phone shot and still have it look like the person. Send us what you have and we'll tell you honestly whether it's enough.

Portraits need size. A face with all its detail at a few centimetres turns into a grey smudge over the years. We'll name the minimum size your motif can carry for good.

Don't expect a photo on skin. A good portrait is a translation: skin isn't paper, it ages and stretches. That's why we build contrast deliberately stronger than it looks in the photo.
